I am…

A composer. I’ve studied at Sarah Lawrence (Chester Biscardi, George Tsontakis) and the City University of New York Graduate Center (Thea Musgrave, Tania Leon) at which I’m completing a PhD in Music Composition. I was co-founder of the Graduate Center’s Contemporary Ensemble. I have written experimental/concert works for voice, piano, percussion, chamber ensembles, and mixed electronics, and worked with musicians such as Kathleen Supove, Margaret Lancaster, and members of the New York Consort of Viols. My work is influenced in equal parts by synthetic landscapes and early music, and I’ve been a frequent collaborator with modern dance including choreographers Kathy Westwater and Christopher Williams.

An electronic musician and live visualist working with custom tools. I perform computer audiovisuals live at clubs and festivals, and I’ve been a regular at New York’s Warper Party. I develop my own tools for performance and interaction, working now primarily in Java/Processing but have experience in Reaktor, Max/MSP/Jitter and Pd, and ActionScript.

A teacher. I’m a guest faculty member at Parsons The New School for Design and Technology. I have taught digital design at the Massachusetts College of Art. I have taught electronic music at Sarah Lawrence College, Hunter College CUNY, and Brooklyn College CUNY, and music theory and musicianship at Hunter College CUNY.

An author and Web community wrangler. I created and run Create Digital Music and Create Digital Motion, leading websites for an emerging community people pushing the boundaries of digital expression. I’m now leading development of noisepages, a community platform for DIY digital music and visuals. I’m the author of Real World Digital Audio, a comprehensive reference on digital music production (Peachpit Press). I’m also a freelance author and contributor to Macworld, Keyboard, Wax Poetics, Computer Music, and MAKE.
